The journey from Ebstorf to Lüneburg was short at just 27km and the weather was glorious, making up for the long wet journeys in the days before. Most of the journey is a cycle track alongside the road, which is pleasant if there is little traffic. The last bit goes through the woods, and this was truly beautiful (first image). The woody track ended in a residential part of Lüneburg, and it was just a few kilometers to the stunning central square (second image). I wonder if this sqaure might have been one of Bach’s first impressions of the town. Certainly the historical buildings lining the square are very impressive and bear witness to Lüneburg’s prosperity in the middle ages.
