Bach’s Quest

Beginning on 21st August 2021 I retraced J.S. Bach’s footsteps on the epic journey he made as a 15 year old from Ohrdruf in Thuringia to Lüneburg in Lower Saxony.

Bach travelled this route on foot, I travelled by bicycle and performed each of the 6 works BWV 1001-1005 for violin solo in a church along the route.

This project was enabled by a grant from the Ministry for Culture in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Bach’s Quest School

Thanks to a Neustart Kultur grant, Bach’s Quest is taking a new form as an education project. Over the next 8 weeks we will be working on the journey Bach embarked upon as a 15-year-old together with a class of 15 to 17-year-old pupils at a school in Köln. We’ll be posting on the blog here, on instagram and on TikTok.
